Warning; ‘Scales’ is a serial body-horror and, at times, terrible terrain for the mind.
Their teeth appear to be serrated.
Glowing like mother-of-pearl in the sparse, dappled light.
‘Where is that light coming from?’ I wondered.
Their skin is nearly translucent and eroded, till smooth. As if this ‘spirit’ is embalming their body from the inside-out.
“Wake up, time to die!” The creature erupted in laughter.
“What did you just say?!” I screamed, but only half-way. The last of it came out in bubbles. I both came back to my own logic and slipped away into what felt like a whirlpool in time. I could remember how I got here, but not why.
“Be careful, child. If you focus too much on your questioning, you will choke on your own understanding. You’ll forget what you know now. You need to remember how to breathe! But don’t think too hard about it. If you do, you’ll disturb the ecosystem.”
Don’t look up.
“Why don’t you look up and reorient yourself, child. Give yourself that sense of direction you’ve always wanted. Hmm?” Bleu’s corpse began to shake violently.
Don’t look up.
“Look up, child!” It roared.
Don’t look up.
“I will tear into this vessel and snuff out every nerve. I will incinerate them from the inside like the death of so many stars. And you will watch as I peel the entrails of their nervous system out from under, floating behind them like jellyfish tendrils!”
Blackout.
